Day 48 West Loren to Port Dover ON Canada

Accommodations this week have been rough!  Last night another hot gym, doors open so a bunch of flies but thank heavens they bought in a bunch of large fans so we all huddled around fans to try to catch some sleep.  Oh and the hall lights had motion activation and I think someone was sleeping under it so everytime they rolled over they went on! So between it all not much sleep.

It is crazy how humid it has been  90%+. Thank heavens for the cloud cover! We started our day with a short ride to breakfast and by the time we got there I was already wet!  We had 97 scheduled miles today so Terri and I decided to add the 3 extra miles first thing in the morning by doubling back so we could get another century ride in.

Today’s route took us through many small towns.  We stopped in Port Stanley (around mile 28) for some really good iced coffee. Then up a short hill with 15% grades which was actually on the route sheet. However, the last 10 miles had several killer hills with equally steep grades that didn't make the route sheet!  I still think Dan our route guy has an evil sense of humor and enjoys our end of day misery when we aren’t prepared for those last climbs 😝!

Anyway back to the route, around mile 66 we picked up the Lakeshore line road which runs along Lake Erie. Unfortunately, not many good views of the water.  Around mile 80 we stopped at a gas station for some cold drinks and food!  I downed a whole bag of potato chips just to try to replace some of the salt that was pouring out of me!

Terri is such a trouper!  When we hit that last 10 miles she kept me going with her encouragement!  I was dripping wet and unprepared for the hills but we finally made it in to a very rustic campground called Norfork Conservation Area. It had porta-potties for our group, no sinks but at least a shower area.  Because of the high humidity the ground was wet but there were some shade trees.

The highlight of the day was that they shuttled us into Port Dover. Terri and I decided to bypass the offered church dinner and ate at Callahans a nice little restaurant on Lake Erie.

Stats for today:  100 miles, 2,044 feet of elevation gain
