Day 52 Geneseo to Seneca Falls
Last night the rain came in hard around 9:00 and we woke to a gentle rain this morning. So, the rain coats went on for the ride this morning. It rained on and off most of the morning as we toured around the finger lakes area. Unfortunately with the rain cover and fog the views were not that great. The finger lakes area is definitely one area I will come back to. Lots of nice small towns, great cycling roads, a wine trail and I am sure when the weather is more favorable beautiful scenery.
With wet roads it seems flat tires follows. There were several people who had flats today and some more than 1! One guy had 3 flats! One ran over a big drill bit and had to replace his entire rim! Terri and I were lucky and avoided them.
Today, was another day of rollers so it was a really fun ride! After, after picnic we stopped in a little town called Penn Yan for some coffee and a snack. I thought the name was unusual so I googled it and it was settled by Pennsylvania’s and they were called “Yankees”. So, the name Penn Yan. It is also known for the largest pancake pan (25 feet). They actually used it at their buckwheat festival.
After we left there we made our way to Seneca Lake which is one of the “Finger Lakes”. The rain had let up by this time so we did get to see some beautiful views of that lake the route also took us along the Seneca wine trail. I really wanted to stop for a wine tasting but we had too many miles to go before camp.
Tonight, we are staying in Seneca Falls. It is known for the place where the woman’s rights movement started and for the bridge in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. We had a nice dinner in a nice hotel in town. It is another night of camping for us outside of the Middle School.
Stats: 94 miles, 4,806 feet of elevation gain - last 90+ ride!
